PPG post-ablation monitoring in Graz
119 post-ablation patients monitored three times daily; 27% showed AF-suggestive measurements and telemonitoring led to intervention in 24%.
Objective
To follow up patients after atrial fibrillation ablation as part of the TeleCheck-AF project.
Approach
The Medical University of Graz used FibriCheck to follow up 119 patients who underwent ablation. Patients activated a subscription via QR code and measured three times a day and when symptomatic; data was shared automatically through the clinician’s telemedicine portal for review.
Outcome
27% of patients had measurements suggestive of AF in the week after ablation, and telemonitoring resulted in clinical interventions in 24%, including antiarrhythmic drugs, cardioversion and dose reductions. PPG-based follow-up that actively involves patients may close a diagnostic and prognostic gap after AF ablation and increase patient involvement.
