North East London Hospital implements FibriCheck for remote patient monitoring post-stroke

Over at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals, a clinical trial has been conducted where post-stroke patients tested themselves at home for atrial fibrillation (AF) with FibriCheck. 

The at-home testing for atrial fibrillation was done alongside standard Holter monitors. The results of our app and the monitors were then compared to see if FibriCheck was equally accurate so it could be used as an alternative to the monitors in the future.

“The number of Holter devices is limited and waiting lists are exceeding 6 to 32 weeks in the UK,” states FibriCheck CEO Lars Grieten. “Consequently, the lack of detection and initiation of appropriate AF management poses a significant risk of developing a secondary stroke. By enabling timely detection of AF or ruling it out, FibriCheck alleviates the pressure on the healthcare system.”

The trial has been influenced by the use of FibriCheck in the hospitals’ Cardiology department. As part of TeleCheck-AF, patients in the heart rhythm clinic have been assessed remotely without the need to physically come to the hospitals.

Dr. Afzal Sohaib, a cardiology consultant, said: “The feedback we’ve received from patients and their caregivers is that FibriCheck is easy to use. I’m confident the measurements are reliable, and they provide a wealth of information.”
